Cognitive
Assessment

All Study Success Club students complete our comprehensive cognitive assessment, which measures key executive functions, complex reasoning, memory, and processing speed.

Cognitive skills are the greatest predictor of future academic achievement. Our assessment provides a detailed analysis of your child’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses across core domains. This allows us to deliver targeted support to help your child thrive and gain true insight into how your child’s mind works.

High School students will receive an ACT vs. SAT recommendation based on which test is best according to their cognitive strengths.

Reading Diagnostic (Optional)

Students can complete a comprehensive reading diagnostic assessment that measures 8 essential reading subskills, including comprehension strategies, vocabulary, sight-word recognition, phonics, spelling, and phonemic awareness.

This is an optional assessment for an additional cost.

Math Diagnostic (Optional)

We can assess your students’ mastery of essential K-7 math concepts through Algebra 1. Our comprehensive diagnostic evaluation covers over 44 targeted sub-tests to precisely identify each student’s strengths, weaknesses, and instructional needs across foundational mathematical domains.

This is an optional assessment for an additional cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you are still considering opting for the Study Success Squad as educational support for your middle or high school child, you can always check out the common queries about this program.

Why must my child Complete a cognitive assessment?

Cognitive skills are the best predictor of academic outcomes. Learning scientists show that cognitive skills explain over 50% of the variability in student achievement, significantly higher than any other known factor.

We use each student’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses to help them achieve academic success. The test can also help determine why a student may have learning challenges and recommendations to overcome those challenges.

Will I Get A Copy of The Test Results?

Yes, parents will receive a copy of their child’s test results. After the tests are completed, the staff will review and interpret the results. They will then schedule a meeting with you to discuss the test findings.

The test results will provide valuable insights into your child’s academic skills and performance. The staff will explain what the results mean and how they can be used to support your child’s learning at home. The results will help you understand your child’s strengths and any areas that may need additional support or practice.

With this information, you can work closely with your child and their teachers to ensure they get the help they need to succeed. The test results are an important tool for monitoring your child’s progress and developing an effective plan to meet their educational goals.

What is the capacity size?

The program has a total capacity of 6 seats per grade age group (grades 6-8 and grades 9-12). The small group size is intentional, allowing us to provide more personalized attention and support to ensure each child can excel academically. We believe in prioritizing the quality of education over the quantity of students.

Will the program help with homework?

The Study Success Squad program is focused on building essential academic and executive function skills rather than directly assisting with specific homework assignments. However, a key part of our sessions is teaching students how to utilize the resources to complete homework and classwork successfully and effectively.

While we do not complete homework directly, we empower students with the skills and knowledge to tackle their assignments independently using the support systems in place. The goal is to foster autonomous, resourceful learners who can apply these techniques throughout their courses.

Suppose a student struggles with a specific subject or assignment and requires more intensive, one-on-one homework help. In that case, we are happy to provide recommendations for discounted private tutoring services that can supplement the skills-based coaching of the Study Success Squad program.

The core focus of our twice-weekly sessions is building the academic mindsets, habits, and competencies that lead to overall school and future success – not just completing homework in the short term. By mastering these essential skills, students will be well-equipped to tackle any homework challenges that come their way.

Will the Program help with Standardized Test Prep?

The Study Success Squad program is designed to equip students with a broad range of academic and executive function skills that support long-term success rather than focusing solely on preparation for specific standardized tests. We include coaching on general test-taking strategies and best practices.

We do not provide comprehensive, subject-specific test prep for exams like the SAT, ACT, AP tests, etc. However, as part of our college readiness guidance, we will work with students to identify any standardized tests they need to prepare for based on their academic and college application goals.

Suppose a student requires more intensive, individualized test prep support. In that case, we are happy to sign them up for private tutoring services specializing in specific exam preparation.
